What to check before renting a storage unit

If you live in the Marina Alta, own a second home here or are renovating, a storage unit close to home saves you trips and time. These are the things worth checking before you rent, using our Ondara site as an example.
A convenient location for the whole region
Ondara is in the Marina Alta, a few minutes from Dénia, Pedreguer, El Verger and Pego. People who store things here usually collect them on the way to something else, so check that access is easy and that you can park near the door.
Our site is at C/ Antic Camp de Futbol, 5, with a trolley at the entrance for heavy items. If you are coming from Dénia, Dénia opens very soon and you can leave us your phone number so we let you know.
Access: getting in whenever you need to
Ask whether access is 24 hours and how you get in. At Ondara you can come in at any hour, every day of the year, with your code. That is handy if you work shifts, arrive late from a trip or need to take something out on a Sunday.
Security and insurance
Check that there is CCTV and an alarm, and that insurance is included in the price or what it costs extra. At our site there are cameras in the corridors, an alarm across the building and insurance included from €1,000; the cover is fixed.
Price and terms: what to ask before signing
Always compare the final price, with VAT and insurance. We charge €24 per square metre a month, everything included. Before signing anywhere, ask about these points:
- Whether the price you are given includes VAT and insurance.
- Whether there is a minimum term or a deposit.
- How you give notice and how far ahead.
- What you cannot store.
Our size guide explains how to work out the area you need, and you can try it in the calculator.
