What size storage unit do I need?

Choosing the size is the number one question when renting a storage unit. Too small and you end up paying for a second one; too big and you pay for empty space. This guide gives you a simple way to work it out, and the real sizes at our Ondara site.

Start with what you want to store

List the large items (sofa, bed, wardrobe, fridge) and count the boxes separately. Furniture takes up more room than it seems because it cannot be stacked. Boxes can, and that is where you gain the most space if you place them well.

Think about what you will need to take out, too. Anything you use often should sit near the door, and that takes space as well.

The sizes at our Ondara site

Ondara has 54 units, from about 2.8 to about 8.8 m². We have grouped them into four sizes:

  • Small, 2.77 to 3.95 m² (€66 to €95 a month): suitcases, boxes and a bicycle.
  • Medium, 4.36 to 5.02 m² (€105 to €120 a month): the furniture of a studio flat.
  • Large, 5.27 to 6.50 m² (€127 to €156 a month): the furniture of a two-bedroom flat.
  • Extra large, 6.89 to 8.81 m² (€165 to €211 a month): a three-bedroom flat or a shop’s stock.

The price is €24 per square metre a month, VAT and insurance included. You can see every unit with its area and exact price in the sizes and prices table.

A practical rule so you do not get it wrong

Always leave a gap to move around and reach the back. If you are torn between two sizes, pick the larger one when you have bulky furniture and the smaller one when it is mostly boxes, because boxes stack upwards.

If your situation changes, message us and we will look at the options. It is better to ask before signing than to find out afterwards.

Work it out in a minute

In the calculator you tick what you want to store and it tells you the area you need and an approximate price. Then you send it to us on WhatsApp and we confirm which units are free. If you are about to store a lot, you may also like to read how to prepare your things for a storage unit.
